Lincoln Museum Visit

Lincoln statue by the Museum
Saturday is our preparation day. So, yesterday we drove over to Springfield, Illinois to visit the Abraham Lincoln Museum, Lincoln's home and his tomb. We took another senior missionary couple (the Hufstetler's ) from Layton with us. We've been wanting to go sometime and this was the last time we could go because of our Rendezvous show schedule until November and we didn't know what weather would be like by then.

Those who have been there told us that they didn't really have enough time to really see everything because they didn't get there until nearly noon. So, we left early enough to be there about the time the museum opened at 9:00 a.m. The exhibits were very interesting as well as educational. It seemed like we hadn't been there very long when I looked at my watch and it was already 2:30 p.m. The museum, home and tomb all closed at 5:00 p.m. so we had to hurry

through the remainder of the exhibits. We had wanted to take pictures of many of the exhibits, however, it was not permitted. The only place we could take pictures was in the lobby area which led to each of the exhibit areas.

We did get over to the Lincoln home in time to see a short movie in the visitors center and get tickets for a tour of the home which is conducted by national park rangers.

Following the tour of the home, we hurried over to the tomb which wasn't too far away and did get there just before closing time.

Outside the tomb monument is a bronze head of Lincoln. Everyone touches or rubs his large nose so it is very shiny.

It seemed to be a hurried day. We left at 6:30 a.m. got there at 9:30 after stopping for breakfast. We at dinner in Springfield before leaving for Nauvoo and didn't get there until almost 10:00 p.m. However, it was very worth while.
